Sister Cities Celebrates Parmigiano Reggiano Day
at Sunset Foods in Highland Park
October 27th from 10AM-2PM
The Highland Park Sister Cities Foundation has partnered with Sunset Foods in Highland Park to celebrate Parmigiano Reggiano Day-a day to remember how Massimo Bottura, world famous chef from Modena, Italy, one of Highland Park’s sister cities, saved the cheesemakers of the King of Cheeses after a devastating earthquake.
Years of cheese production were lost (about $50 million worth) potentially threatening the livelihood of cheesemakers whose families produced this product for generations. Bottura's response to the situation was a single recipe: Riso cacio e pepe. He invited the world to cook this new dish along with him launching "Parmigiano Reggiano Day", October 27th.
To honor Massimo, the Foundation will be selling raffle tickets to win a Gift Basket, donated by Sunset Foods, filled with products from Modena. All proceeds will go to Bottura’s Il Tortellante Project, a program in Modena that teaches teenagers and adults on the autism spectrum to make tortellini by hand and empowers them with social and life skills.
Come to Sunset on October 27th, take home Massimo’s recipe, taste Sunset’s Parmesan Reggiano and enjoy a special discount.
